Assessing a Client's
Surveillance Needs
A successful CCTV surveillance
installation starts with a
the site survey. A good site
survey not only considers the
client's present needs
but also possible future
needs as well.
CCTV
Installation Considerations
Keep
in mind the following items that
should be considered by the
installer while working with the
client
* What will the client be using
the
CCTV system for and what are their
objectives?
* How does the system merge with
other software and hardware
that the client might have in
place or will perhaps have to
put in place at a later date?
* Does the system work in a way
that fits in with the way the
business operates day to day?
Most
clients would be thinking of
using the system as a deterrent
against crime or to review specific events after they
occur. In some cases the
system will be used for
monitoring productivity in
those cases it would need to allow for
additional controls and
processes to be put in place by
the business.
Whatever the client will use it
for initially, the first
rule with any site survey
should be that the system
system being suggested is
expandable. Although the current
needs may be met with an
8 channel DVR, Ideally the DVR
installed would have unused
channels. If that's not possible you
should consider
whether the DVR is capable
of expanding either through add
on cards, adding more DVR's with
the ability to control and
monitor them from a central
point, or making use of
IP-based systems which are easily expandable.
The
rest of the site survey should
consider the following points:
