Assessing a Client's Surveillance Needs

 

    A successful CCTV surveillance installation starts with a the site survey. A good site survey not only considers the client's present needs but also possible future needs as well.

   

 CCTV Installation Considerations

     Keep in mind the following items that should be considered by the installer while working with the client

* What will the client be using the CCTV system for and what are their objectives?

* How does the system merge with other software and hardware that the client might have in place or will perhaps have to put in place at a later date?

* Does the system work in a way that fits in with the way the business operates day to day?

     Most clients would be thinking of using the system as a deterrent against crime or to review specific events after they occur. In some cases the system will be used for monitoring  productivity in those cases it would need to allow for additional controls and processes to be put in place by the business.

     Whatever the client will use it for initially, the first rule with any site survey should be that the system system being suggested is expandable. Although the current needs may be met with an 8 channel DVR, Ideally the DVR installed would have unused channels. If that's not possible you should consider whether the DVR is capable of expanding either through add on cards, adding more DVR's with the ability to control and monitor them from a central point, or making use of IP-based systems which are easily expandable.
